Advocacy Brief: Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda in the Indo-Pacific

It has been privilege to participate in discussions on Advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in the Indo-Pacific.

On the 22nd anniversary of the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, Nichole Georgeou, Karen Soldatić, and Western Sydney University, hosted discussions as we dissected and strived for direction for the WPS agenda.

There continues to be a growing understanding and a commitment to the agenda (UNSCR1325) to ensure women's representation in national, regional, and international institutions. This includes Australia's action plan.

At Known Impact, we want to see developing communities, seeing them thrive and grow in resilience. The private and for-purpose sector play a crucial role in dismantling systematic discrimination that assumes deprivation and hardship for many.

With the WPS agenda seeking to tackle much, we were able to dive deeper into areas of SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity), Disability, Education and Participation, and Technology for Inclusion.

It doesn't stop here.

Thank you to Fahima Habib, HE Christine Clarke CSC , Australian Ambassador for Women and Girls, Sally Sitou, member for Reid and Leanne Smith Chief Executive, Australian Human Rights Commission for sharing their challenge and insights. Thank you to Jenny Lee, Dr. Kerry Robinson, and Dr. Lida Ghahremanlou for sharing with such authenticity and drive as we discussed and wrestled with the practicalities of advancing this agenda.

I'm extremely grateful for all that HE Betty Pavelich, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia; HE Mark Glauser, High Commissioner of Canada; HE Pernille Dahler Kardel, Ambassador of Denmark; and HE Kersti Eesmaa, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia; and all that was brought to the table as we seek the advancement of the WPS agenda in Australia and the global community.
